CALRE: Yavuz Mildon calls for tripartite co-operation involving regional governments

In an address to the Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies (CALRE) in Euskadi (Basque Country), Spain, on 3 November, Yavuz Mildon, President of the Congress, proposed that the partnership between the Congress and the CALRE should be formalised in a co-operation agreement, while underlining that “any such co-operation without the involvement of another major player in regional affairs, namely regional governments, is likely to be unstable.” “We therefore propose that it be extended to a tripartite format that includes the regional executives represented in the Conference of European Regions with Legislative Power, REGLEG”, he added.

S’adressant à la Conférence des Assemblées Législatives Régionales Européennes (CALRE) à Euskadi, Espagne, le 3 novembre, Yavuz Mildon, Président du Congrès, a proposé de formaliser le partenariat Congrès/CALRE dans un accord de coopération, tout en soulignant qu’« une telle coopération sans la participation d’un autre acteur majeur dans les affaires régionales – à savoir les gouvernements régionaux – risque d’être bancale ' . « C’est pourquoi nous proposons de l’élargir à un format riangulaire pour y intégrer les exécutifs régionaux représentés au sein du Groupe des Régions à pouvoir législatif, REGLEG » a-t-il ajouté.
