The Training Course on the Essentials of NFE took place in the European Youth Centre Strasbourg, 9-14 May 2022. The TC was designed to support participants in applying non-formal education methodology in youth activities organised in partnership with the Youth Department, in using Council of Europe tools and standards and in sharing best practices of implementation.
The first two days focused on understanding the underlying principles of non-formal education, including the experiential learning cycle. Here, participants had the opportunity to take part in activities from Compass and Compasito. After this, the programme moved on to focus on the practicalities of organising a study session or an activity supported by the European Youth Foundation, including a session on how to build a programme flow based on aims and objectives. Finally, the training looked at the different themes and topics represented in the room; how they connect to the Youth Department’s priorities and which existing tools and manuals can support their implementation.
The participants were also introduced to the revised Manual for facilitators.
