Aim
Preventing gender-based violence through human rights education.
6 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence against Women and Girls starts on 25 November, also International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It runs through to 10 December, which is Human Rights Day. The awareness event spans these 16 days to highlight the link between abuse, violence and human rights.
About 16 Days
The movement first began at the Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991. 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence is aimed at organisations to support them in taking action against gender-based violence
About Gender-based violence
Anyone can be a victim of Gender based violence, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, “race”, sexuality, sexual orientation, disability, religion or socioeconomic status. However, women are much more likely to be victims than men. They are far more likely to experience repeated and severe forms of abuse, including coercive and controlling behaviour, sexual violence and violence which results in injury or death.
