Junularaj Perspektivoj: Rediscussing intercultural dialogue and non-violent communication among young people

This week, the Youth Department, in co-operation with the World Esperanto Youth Organisation - TEJO, is hosting a study session titled “Junularaj Perspektivoj: Rediscussing intercultural dialogue and non-violent communication among young people”.

This study session is taking place at the European Youth Centre of Budapest from November 6 to 10 2023. It brings together young people from 15 member states of the Council of Europe to learn about the value and the challenges of intercultural encounters and to develop their competences to contribute actively to the development of intercultural societies.

The objectives of the study session are to:

  • Raise awareness and enhance understanding of the importance of intercultural dialogue on an everyday basis, both in the local and in the international levels.
  • Increase participants’ capacity to advocate for intercultural dialogue and non-violent communication by exchanging opinions, knowledge, and good practices, ensuring mutual learning between the young people attending.
  • Train young people using non-formal education methodologies on intercultural dialogues and non-violent communication; its principles, approaches and practical implementation.
  • Create a toolkit of good examples and best practices of youth activities promoting intercultural dialogue and non-violent communication among young people.
  • Make this study session a “hub’’ of young people who will act as multipliers after the end of the activity and spread the outcomes in their local communities.

During this event, conducted in Esperanto and English with simultaneous interpretation, participants have the opportunity to explore their own contexts, identities, and beliefs, as well as learn about other people's experiences and values. The event features a diverse range of innovative sessions prepared by the facilitators' team, including the use of methodologies aimed at creating social change, such as forum theatre. The study session also involves experts in the topics discussed, with a notable feature being the presentation on Intercultural Cities Programme by Giulia Bianchini, Senior Project Officer at the Antidiscrimination Department of the Council of Europe.

More information about the study session can be found on the dedicated webpage.
