End of term evaluation visit of the Quality Label Expert Team to Brežice Youth Centre, Slovenia

On 31 July - 1 August 2023, the end of term visit of the Council of Europe Quality Label for Youth Centre was organised at the Youth Centre in Brežice, Slovenia with the objective to evaluate the fulfilment of the 15 quality criteria of the Quality Label which the Youth Centre Brežice has been holding since 2013. This was a second evaluation visit of a CoE expert’s team to the centre, having been postponed in 2020 due to the global pandemic.

The team of Quality Label experts was welcomed by the Director of Brežice Youth Centre and of the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth of Brežice, Katja Čanžar and her team. The Deputy Mayor of Brežice municipality, Aleksander Gajski and several other stakeholders also presented their assessment of their cooperation with the centre.

The end-term visit was held in the presence of CoE Director of Democratic Participation, Matjaz Gruden, in addition to Igor Jesih, a Slovenian member of the European Steering Committee for Youth (CDEJ).

Considerable progress has been made since the expert team’s last visit to the centre, namely on the reinforcement of educational staff, as well as the youth work component of the centre’s programme.

As a result of these discussions, the Quality Label Expert Team will make its recommendation to the European Steering Committee for Youth (CDEJ) to prolong the Quality Label for the Brežice Youth Centre, with the final decision to be taken at the next CDEJ meeting on 23 October 2023.

There are currently 14 youth centres holding the Council of Europe Quality Label for Youth Centres across Europe, including the Youth Centre in Brežice. The Brežice Youth Centre was the second youth centre which successfully associated itself with the Council of Europe’s Quality Label for Youth Centres in 2013 and is the centre that has held the label for the longest period. The centre continues to focus on non-formal education activities, with the objective of strengthening international cooperation, youth information and mobility. In addition, their activities focus on culture and art, as well human rights education for children and youth.
