Today saw the launch of the new Council of Europe youth sector strategy 2030 by Ambassador Irakli Giviashvili, President of the Ministers’ Deputies, and Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
“Strengthening democracy through education, culture and youth engagement” is one of the priorities of the Georgian presidency of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers and this launch followed an informal exchange of views on that subject between the Ministers’ Deputies and key stakeholders from the youth sector.
For the Council of Europe, young people are partners who are fundamental in the consolidation of democracy, human rights and the rule of law and have a vital role to play in fostering the Organisation’s values. The Joint Council on Youth (CMJ), the co-managed decision-making body of the Council of Europe youth sector, has formulated a strategy that underlines the specific contribution of this sector to the Organisation’s objectives, as well as its capacity to respond to new challenges facing young people and Europe.
Over the next ten years, the new Council of Europe youth sector strategy 2030 will be instrumental in empowering young people to participate in pluralist democracy and to promote human rights, in order to build inclusive societies based on being equal in dignity and rights. It will do this by focusing on its four thematic priorities of: revitalising pluralistic democracy, young people’s access to rights, living together in peaceful and inclusive societies, and youth work.
