The Black Lives Matter movement – What can young people in Europe do ?

Since the death of George Floyd last May, the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement has grown considerably, people around the world are taking up the cause.

The Council of Europe Advisory Council on Youth (CCJ) organised an online panel debate to understand the context of the BLM movement and how young people in Europe can be an ally to it.

The invited panellists also explored the extent of racism and inequality in Europe to raise young Europeans’ awareness of the issue and to reflect on their role in combating racial segregation and discrimination.

Andrea Ugrinoska, chair of the Advisory Council, led an exchange with Liz Agbor-Tabi Noton, Vice-President of the initiative Global Citizen, Maria Daniella Marouda, chair of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) of the Council of Europe, and Rhammel O’Dwyer-Afflick, Director of Communications, Pride in London.
