COMPASS training course in Poland
Empower Youth with Human Rights Education

The Bezlik Foundation in Poland, in cooperation with and with the support of the Council of Europe organised the National Training Course titled "Empower Youth with Human Rights Education" from 3 to 8 August 2020. Participants came from various backgrounds, among them were teachers, activists, youth workers and NGO workers. During an intense week of learning and living together the group and the trainers worked specifically on the know-how of implementing human rights education programmes in schools with children and young people and of addressing issues such as discrimination or hate speech through human rights education. Other topics tackled throughout the course included principles of non-formal education and non-violent communication.

Among others, a variety of educational resources of the Council of Europe were used, like COMPASS, Gender Matters and Bookmarks. The training was also a valuable opportunity for participants for networking and sharing experiences, and they also had a chance to meet experts on specific topics, such as the rights of LGBTQ+ community in Poland or the work with people with disabilities. As a follow-up after the training, the young participants are expected to initiate and conduct their own action human rights education projects in their local communities.
