The Steering Committee on Democracy continues to integrate youth perspectives

In line with its commitment to integrating youth perspectives into the work of intergovernmental committees and other Council of Europe bodies, the youth sector is supporting the Steering Committee on Democracy (CDDEM) in advancing the Reykjavik Principles for Democracy. This collaboration aims to promote, protect, and strengthen democracy across member states with the active participation of young people.

Ms Emma Werner, a member of the Bureau of the Advisory Council on Youth (CCJ) and lead on the cross-cutting portfolio 'Follow-up to the Reykjavik Summit: Strengthening Youth Perspective and Participation”, will represent the CCJ at the next meeting of the CDDEM Working Group on Parameters for the Application and Implementation of the Reykjavik Principles of Democracy. The meeting will take place on 22–23 September 2025 in Strasbourg, following a public consultation on a draft set of parameters conducted in the summer of 2025.

The CCJ participates as an observer in the meetings of both the CDDEM and the Working Group, actively contributing and bringing a youth perspective to the discussions.

This initiative is part of the process of integrating a youth perspective into the work of intergovernmental committees and other Council of Europe bodies, and is supported by the Youth Department. It is expected that a Resolution on the Council of Europe Reference Framework on a Youth Perspective will be adopted at the 10th Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, which is due to take place on 8–9 October in Valletta, Malta.
