The Steering Committee on the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine met in Kyiv on 12 June to take stock of the results achieved since 2015, and to reflect on the priorities for the upcoming period 2018-2021. Andreas Kiefer, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, presented the contribution of the Congress to the local democracy dimension of the Action Plan through the project “Promoting local democracy in Ukraine”. He highlighted “the importance of the political dimension to the consolidation of reforms, by empowering local elected representatives as drivers of change to build resilient communities”. So far, it is more than 500 local elected representatives who benefited from the support of Congress activities. Andreas Kiefer reiterated the Congress’ readiness to pursue its support to the decentralisation process in Ukraine through a political and operational dialogue.
