At the opening sitting of the 43rd Session, members of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe elected their new Secretary General for a term of five years. 

The Secretary General is responsible for the proper functioning of the Congress and its bodies and the follow-up of their decisions, for providing leadership and guidance to the colleagues in the secretariat and managing the financial resources in order to achieve the political and thematic objectives defined by the Congress in its priorities.
