Asked by the news agency ANSA for her opinion on the Catalan referendum, Congress President Gudrun Mosler-Törnström said: “I regret the violence that marked Sunday in Catalonia, nevertheless, the decision of the Catalan regional authorities to carry out an illegal referendum was already fraught with risk and I consider that flagrantly unconstitutional decision to be lacking in the sense of responsibility which should guide the executive of a large region. Today I call on the Spanish Government and the Region of Catalonia to commit to a political dialogue which is the only feasible way forward in a modern democracy.
