Nataliya Romanova: 'The upcoming local elections in Ukraine could be considered as a test of Ukraine’s readiness for change'

Speaking in an interview about concrete examples of cooperation between the Ukrainian and the Polish delegations, Nataliya Romanova (Ukraine, ILDG), Vice-President of the Congress and Councillor of the Chernigiv District, said that the positive decentralisation experience in Poland was very valuable for her own country. “Indeed, the decentralisation model implemented in Poland is well suited to Ukraine as well”, she stated. Mrs Romanova has also expressed her confidence that the upcoming local elections in Ukraine on 25 October, which will be observed by the Congress, would run smoothly. “Together with the Congress, our central and regional authorities and associations, we have developed a roadmap that has contributed to changes to our constitution. Now, it is very important to implement what has been said”, she explained. For Mrs Romanova the upcoming elections in Ukraine represent a test, the results of which will show whether Ukraine is ready for the change. She expressed her hope that all future elections in Ukraine will be based on the model of a fully decentralised state.
