From 11–18 October, the study session “Youth Ambassadors of the Decade Against Antigypsyism” brought together 20 young people from 15 countries at the European Youth Centre Budapest.
Organised by ERGO Network and ternYpe, in cooperation with the Council of Europe’s Youth Department, the study session created a space for young people to explore antigypsyism, decolonisation and microaggressions, among the main topics.
Through sharing their experiences, knowledge and perspectives, participants strengthened their understanding of antigypsyism and their commitment to challenging stereotypes and discrimination against Roma.
For the young ambassadors, the fight for equality starts with making Roma voices heard. As one participant put it: “We should not just be spoken about. We should be part of the conversation.”
Another participant highlighted the importance of solidarity: “I feel like everyone deserves a voice. It’s a basic human right, and I am able to amplify the voice of those who are being robbed of theirs.”
Throughout the week, participants also transformed their ideas into creative projects to raise awareness and challenge antigypsyism. Their work is a powerful reminder of why this fight matters.
