This week, the European Youth Centre Strasbourg is hosting the study session "Young, Informed & Involved: Strengthening Democratic Literacy and Media Participation". It brings together 39 young journalists, content creators, youth activists and media makers from over 20 countries - all committed to strengthening democratic participation through media and civic storytelling.
Organised in partnership with European Youth Press and DYPALL Network, the session equips participants with the knowledge and tools to understand their rights to expression, information and civic engagement. Interactive sessions explore the challenges facing democracy today - from youth participation and disinformation, to digital literacy and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence. The programme also features a Toolkit Fair, with guest speakers from the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities and the Youth Department’s Youth for Revitalising Democracy project.
Through three practical track labs, participants are developing concrete outputs to bring back to their communities. The Media Literacy Toolkit track produces ready-to-use educational resources for youth audiences. The Civic Story Seeds track supports participants in co-designing civic project concepts addressing real community challenges, grounded in the Revised European Charter on Youth Participation. The Media Lab offers hands-on production experience, with participants creating articles, videos and social media content on themes explored throughout the week.
Participants leave Strasbourg ready to act as multipliers of democratic participation and media literacy in their communities across Europe.
