Malta signs and ratifies the Protocol to the European Charter of Local Self-Government on the right to participate in the affairs of a local authority

Congress President Gudrun MOSLER-TÖRNSTRÖM welcomes Malta’s signature and ratification of the Additional Protocol to the European Charter of Local Self-Government on the right to participate in the affairs of a local authority, on 16 January 2018, which will enter into force in Malta on 1 May 2018. The report and recommendation on the situation of local democracy in Malta, prepared by co-rapporteurs Risto RAUTAVA, (Finland, EPP/CCE) and Stewart DICKSON (United Kingdom, ILDG) and adopted  by the Congress session in March 2017, recommended the signature and ratification of the Additional Protocol.

Malta had signed and ratified the European Charter of Local Self-Government in 1993.
