Congress involves in the training of local representatives in Tunisia

The Congress organised in cooperation with the Centre of Training and Support to Decentralisation (CFAD), a training of trainers on the management of municipal conflicts in Tunis, from 16 to 18 November 2017. While Tunisia is preparing to hold its first municipal elections since the Revolution, many challenges remain for future local elected representatives to succeed in this additional step of the Tunisian decentralisation reform. After identifying the causes and forms of conflict that might emerge at the local level, the awareness of the 14 trainers gathered on this occasion was raised through facilitated discussions and case studies on the types of solutions and tools to prevent and manage conflict. This training focused on the role of the mayor who will play a key role in coordinating with all relevant actors at the local level, in particular municipal councillors and administration for the benefit of citizens. Mr. Adel BEN YAKHLEF, Director of CFAD, recalled that the Congress brings together local and regional elected representatives from the 47 member States of the Council of Europe whose experiences could be used for the benefit of Tunisia. This training was organised as part of the co-operation project "Democratic governance at the local level" implemented by the Congress in Tunisia.
