On the occasion of the ongoing session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Congress President, Leendert Verbeek met with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly, Rik Daems and with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, on 20 April 2021.
Both President Daems and Secretary General Pejčinović Burić underlined the unique role of the Congress in the institutional architecture of the Council of Europe and the paramount importance of the local and regional authorities grass-root contribution to addressing the challenges faced by the member States of the Council of Europe.
President Verbeek and President Daems agreed to enhance the co-operation between the two institutions which play a complementary role in the Council of Europe setting. President Daems will participate in the Congress Session in the fall.
Secretary General Pejčinović Burić welcomed the priorities adopted by the Congress and reaffirmed her support for the important work of the Congress. She will be addressing the Congress at the second part of its 40th Session in June.
