Human rights on the Compass – Human Rights Education Training Course in Portugal

From 29 September to 03 October 2025, the Compass National Training Course on Human Rights Education takes place at the Lisbon Youth Centre. Under the heading Human rights on the Compass (Direitos Humanos no COMPASS Certo!), this training course brings together 25 young leaders and youth workers from all over Portugal.

Over five days, participants will deepen their knowledge of human rights, explore methodologies for non-formal education, and develop the skills needed to design and implement awareness-raising activities for and with young people. The training is based on the Council of Europe educational resources such as Compass: Manual for Human Rights Education with Young People, the new Portuguese version of which is currently in preparation.

Participants have the opportunity to discuss first steps in developing an action plan for 2026. This plan will include a program of activities involving all training participants, aimed at promoting human rights education at local, regional, and national levels.

Additionally, Jorge Orlando Queiros, the Portuguese representative on the European Steering Committee for Youth will present Portugal's youth work policy and practice in integrating the Council of Europe standards.

The training course is organised by the Quality Labelled Lisbon Youth Centre of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ) and the Associação para a Igualdade (Aequalitas), in cooperation with the Council of Europe Youth Department.
