Enabling Roma Youth Participation

In 2018 the activities of the Roma Youth Action Plan had a specific focus on developing or enhancing Roma youth participation at national level, notably by building upon processes initiated in 2017 and earlier.

  • Croatia: Non-formal Education and Youth Work with Young Roma - The training workshop was held in Zagreb Croatia from 22 to 25 November, co-organised with the Office for Human Rights and Rights of National Minorities of the Government of Croatia. Participation of young Roma was enhanced in training workshop by develop participants’ competences in carrying out quality non-formal educational, training and youth work related activities with young Roma people with the purpose of stimulating their participation and social inclusion in the context of Croatia. The workshop resulted in projects to be implemented by participants and should result in 2019 in a strengthened national network of Roma and non-Roma youth workers committed to Roma youth inclusion.
  • Italy: Responses of Young People to Antigypsyism and Hate Speech - Co-organised in Rome from 27 to 30 November with UNAR, Romà Onlus and the Roma National platform, this workshop trained and motivated young human rights activists about the realities of antigypsyism and hate speech affecting Roma in Italy. The activity built upon a similar workshop held last year. Participants will remain active and receive further educational support from trainers and organisers, notably on the development of counter-narratives and human rights education, notably through the usage of the manual Mirrors.
