'What do they want? They want us to be afraid. They want to stop us from being democratic, free and inclusive. Shall we correspond to what they want and become racist, xenophobic and radicalised ourselves? ' asked Guilherme Pinto during the opening session of the Conference on the prevention of radicalisation leading to violent extremism on 18 November in Aarhus, Denmark. 'The recent events underscore the urgent need for more European integration and closer police and legal co-operation. We must be able to convince these young people, who could be tempted by radicalisation, that our world is multicultural and that their home is not abroad but the place where they live. We must show our commitment to promoting and defending human rights on a daily basis.' he concluded.
