Congress of the Council of Europe to observe local elections in Belgrade

At the invitation of the Serbian authorities, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe deployed a mission, led by Congress member Carla Dejonghe (Belgium, ILDG), to observe the local elections on 3 April 2022 in Belgrade and several other municipalities.

The deployment on Election Day was preceded by preparatory meetings on 1 and 2 April with representatives of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, the Republic Electoral Commission, members of the Serbian Delegation to the Congress and the Secretary General of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities.

Meetings were also scheduled with the diplomatic corps based in Belgrade, candidates for the Mayor of Belgrade, representatives of NGOs and media as well as the IEOM observing the polls to elect both the President and members of the National Assembly to be held in Serbia on the same day.

A press conference was organised on Monday, 4 April at 12:00 (Crowne Plaza Hotel, Mediterranean & Adriatic room, Vladimira Popovica 10, Belgrade).
