Greece: visit by Chair of Congress Current Affairs Committee

At the invitation of the Greek Parliament and the Governor of the Region of Attica, the Chair of the Current Affairs Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Gabriele Neff (Germany, ILDG), is to make a visit to Athens, in Greece, from 30 August to 2 September 2017.

On 31 August, she will address the meeting of the Greek Parliament’s Special Permanent Committee on Regions and hold an exchange of views with Anastasios KOURAKIS, First Deputy Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, responsible for European Affairs.

The discussions will focus on activities with regard to the reception and integration of migrants and refugees in the light of the latest Congress report on the role of local authorities in this specific field, adopted in March 2017.

The meetings of Gabriele NEFF in Athens will also include issues with regard to children’s rights and gender equality, both subjects on which the Congress has adopted several strategies and texts, in particular the Pact of Towns and Regions to Stop Sexual Violence against Children.

On 1 September, a meeting is scheduled with Irena DOUROU, Governor of the Region of Attica and member of the Congress Chamber of Regions.
