17 May: International day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
On the occasion of International day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT) on 17 May 2017, the Congress President Gudrun Mosler-Törnström and other members of the Congress - all local and regional elected representatives - addressed video messages to call on decision-makers and citizens to defend the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people around the slogan 'Come out for Human Rights!'. For many years the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities has been promoting the implementation of grassroots initiatives and policies to guarantee the rights of LGBTI people and to combat discrimination against them. The Congress has adopted, in March 2015, Resolution 380 (2015) and Recommendation 370 (2015) on “Guaranteeing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people’s rights: a responsibility for Europe’s towns and regions”.
