Retour Pilot Training on judicial review of corruption related crimes

Strengthening the capacity of the High School of Justice of Georgia
Pilot Training on judicial review of corruption related crimes

On 18-19 May 2017, the High School of Justice of Georgia trainers completed the training on the judicial review of corruption related crimes, through a pilot training in Kakheti, Georgia. It is a follow-up of the Training of Trainers, which took place in April. The pilot training was observed by Mr. Paul Garlick, Council of Europe consultant.

As a result of the training, a group of sixteen of judges-trainers of the High School of Justice of Georgia acquired and improved their knowledge of the applicable national and international legal framework in the field, as well as deepened their knowledge of specificities of such cases. For example, through a review of international and Georgian case studies, participants identified the challenges that they face on issues of undercover agent’s statements and its evidential value, as well as they reviewed the fairness of legal covert actions and their consequences.

As a result of this training planning cycle, the High School of Justice will be able to offer the in-service training on court review of corruption related cases in the framework of its in-service training programme for judges.

The activity was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the capacity of the High School of Justice of Georgia”. This Project is funded by voluntary contributions of Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Norway, Slovakia and Sweden to support the implementation of the Council of Europe Action plan for Georgia 2016-2019.
