Jürgen Stadelmann: Rural development cannot be reached without the commitment of local and regional authorities

''The goal of maintaining vital rural communities cannot be reached without the commitment of local and regional authorities, who should be involved in all stages of drawing-up and implementing rural development programmes'' stated Jürgen Stadelmann, member of the Congress Sustainable development Committee, addressing the AEBR-Forum on Rural Development and Border Regions. He also underlined the importance of some Council of Europe key instruments in this field: the European Convention on Transfrontier Co-operation, the European Landscape Convention, as well as the new generation of Euroregions and the project of the Centre for interregional and transfrontier cooperation in St Petersburg.

''Le maintien de la vitalité des collectivités rurales passe par l'engagement des pouvoirs locaux et régionaux qui devraient être associés à tous les stades de l'élaboration et de la mise en oeuvre des programmes de développement rural'' a déclaré Jürgen Stadelmann, membre de la Commission du développement durable du Congrès, en s'adressant au Forum de l'ARFE sur le développement rural et les régions frontalières. Il a également souligné l'importance de quelques instruments clés du Conseil de l'Europe dans ce domaine: la convention européenne sur la coopération transfrontalière, la convention européenne du paysage, ainsi que la nouvelle génération d'Eurorégions et le projet de Centre pour la coopération interrégionale et transfrontalière de St-Pétersbourg.
