The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O'Flaherty, visited the European Youth Centre Budapest on 25 June as part of his visit to Hungary.
O'Flaherty was scheduled to open the Budapest Pride 30 International Human Rights event at Central European University on 25 June, marking three decades of the city's Pride celebrations.
During his visit to the youth centre, O'Flaherty was received by EYCB Deputy Director Marcos Andrade and Educational Advisor Ida Kreutzman, who conducted a tour of the facilities and briefed him on the centre's mission to deliver human rights education to young people throughout Europe.
The visit coincided with discussions about the 25th anniversary of the Council of Europe's Human Rights Education Programme within its youth sector, highlighting a quarter-century of educational initiatives in the field.
The centre’s staff used the opportunity to engage with the Commissioner on current human rights challenges and priorities and found O'Flaherty's remarks on contemporary human rights issues both inspiring and motivating.
The European Youth Centre Budapest serves as one of the Council of Europe's key instruments for non-formal education on human rights and democracy for young people across the continent.
