Held at the European Youth Centre Strasbourg from 16-20 February, the activity brought together 20 young people from different students’ organisations and representatives from local, national and international level, motivated to promote fundamental values in higher education and strengthen student participation in policymaking.
The programme combined interactive presentations, working groups to develop more awareness on current challenges of students and their representatives, a dynamic exploration of a “student movement museum”, a visit to the European Court of Human Rights and open spaces to creatively express their visions and concrete plans to generate a positive impact on the present and future of student leadership.
“In my view, this study session hits that sweet spot between learning, inspiration, and real action. The diversity of perspectives in the room has been creating an energy that made the experience richer and genuinely valuable for everyone involved, including the team.”, said Katariina Järve, preparatory team member.
The study session provided a deeper understanding of the Bologna Process and European Higher Education Policy and their implications for student participation, particularly in relation to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The activity also equipped student representatives with knowledge and strategies to defend, promote and advocate for fundamental values in Higher Education, and it strengthened the capacity of student representatives to influence relevant policies and hold institutions and universities accountable to their commitments.
Beyond further knowledge, participants have also started working on different calls to action, personalised toolkits and digital campaigning material to advocate, engage in decision‑making and drive meaningful change in student representation in their own realities.
The session was organised by the Council of Europe Youth Department, in co-operation with the ESU-European Students' Union
