Youth - Young people building Europe

INFORMATION RIGHT NOW! Council of Europe & ERYICA Campaign

On 17th April, the European Youth Information and Counselling Agency in partnership with the Council of Europe, launched the “Information Right Now!” campaign, which intends to raise awareness of the special role of youth information with regard to young people’s access to rights and – eventually – on the access to information as a right in itself for all young people.

The campaign is characterised by a rich pool of activities organised by youth information centres and youth workers for and with young people and other youth policy stakeholders across Europe. This also includes Pan-European Action Day on 16th May 2012, when young people are encouraged to put the campaign slogan “Young People Are Asking” into creative action, a photo competition and the selection of Youth Ambassadors. The campaign will also be present at the 9th Conference of Ministers in St. Petersburg this September.

There are three key objectives of the campaign:

  • make young people understand that they have a right to information;
  • move them to find this information in the youth information centres;
  • and involve them in asking decision-makers to guarantee this right.

As Ms Ólöf Ólafsdóttir, Director of Democratic Citizenship and Participation of the Council of Europe, has said, it is only by safeguarding access to information that is reliable, understandable, complete and objective that respect for democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms can prosper.
