European Youth Centre in Budapest

TYPES OF ACTIVITIES AT THE EYCB

YOUTH ACTIVITIES IN THE PROGRAMME OF THE DIRECTORATE OF DEMOCRATIC CITIZENSHIP AND PARTICIPATION

As a service of the Directorate of Democratic Citizenship and Participation, the EYCB subscribes to the Council of
Europe's policies in these fields: respect for the autonomy of young people, active
encouragement of participation and shared responsibility, intercultural learning, human rights
education and co-management of educational programmes and facilities.

The EYCB hosts approximately 140-150 activities per year.
About half of these activities are part of the annual programme of the Directorate of Democratic Citizenship and Participation: training courses, study sessions, consultative meetings and symposia dealing with the development of youth work and youth policy in Europe.

SELF-FINANCED ACTIVITIES

For the other half of the programme, the EYCB hosts a diversity of activities which are also in
line with the aims of the Council of Europe. These activities include meetings, conferences and
training sessions run by other services and directorates of the Council of Europe, Hungarian
Governmental Institutions and Embassies located in Hungary, agencies of the European
Union, and co-operation projects with other international and Hungarian organisations and
numerous NGOs. In line with the Centre's fundamental character, the majority of the activities
are of a multilateral nature.
