United in Diversity - Youth educating Young Catholic Students, a study session at the European Youth Centre Strasbourg

 In the period from 15 to 19 April, the European Youth Centre Strasbourg is hosting 40 young people for a study session “United in Diversity - Youth educating Young Catholic Students” organised by the JECI-MIEC, in cooperation with the Youth Department of the Council of Europe.

 The study session aims to raise awareness on diversity and its impacts on everyday life of young people. During the week, participants will explore democracy and human rights through intercultural dialogue and intercultural learning to better understand different aspect of multiculturalism, identifying the ways to support diversity and equality. They will also go through activities from manuals Compass and Education pack All Different All Equal to further identify how marginalised communities can be supported by young people and Catholic students.

 The objectives of the study session are:

  • To experience intercultural dialogue and intercultural learning amongst the participants;
  • To deeply understand the importance, power and influence of diversity and multiculturalism in society and its advantages;
  • To understand the topic from a historical, economic and social perspective;
  • To communicate the responsibilities and duties young catholic people in Europe have in regard to promote and advocate for inclusion and rights for everyone;
  • To present European policies and projects on the subject;
  • To engage interest of the organizations and JECI-MIEC in projects developed around the theme;
  • To create a people network between countries;
  • To encourage participants to take part and act in the social affairs.

 Beyond the intensive programme tackling topics such as culture, health, migration, religion and education, participants are also exploring Catholic approach to diversity and its connections to human rights education, as well as enjoying interactive social programme, Strasbourg and making new friends.
