Protecting Health as a Human Right in the Modern World 2024 – Study session at the European Youth Centre Strasbourg

In the period from 16 to 20 February, the European Youth Centre Strasbourg hosted the Protecting Health as a Human Right in the Modern World, a study session organised by the International Youth Health Organization (IYHO) and International Federation of Medical Student Associations (IFMSA), in cooperation with the Youth Department of the Council of Europe.

During the study session, participants explored the connections of access to health and healthcare through human rights education and youth participation. The first part of the programme included insightful presentations and discussions on topics such as intercultural understanding, mental health, gender, intersectionality, migration, climate, peacebuilding and conflict, raising participants’ understanding of links to health and human rights. Participants also explored the Council of Europe, starting with the European Convention on Human Rights, and discussing the Enter! Recommendation and the European Social Charter, exploring the right to health and access to healthcare services and facilities.

In the second part of the study session, programme focused on young people’s role as human rights advocates and protectors through exploring meaningful youth participation and democracy. More importantly, they immediately started utilising their new insights by developing a toolkit on health and human rights.

Beyond the intensive learning sessions, social evening activities, participants also explored Strasbourg and enjoyed creating new friendships.

More information about the study session can be found on the dedicated webpage.
