Delegation of Georgian parliamentarians visits European Youth Centre

The European Youth Centre Budapest (EYCB) welcomed a delegation of Georgian parliamentarians today, led by Givi Mikanadze, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, and Youth.

The delegation was received by EYCB Executive Director Balint Molnar and EYCB Deputy Director Marcos Andrade, who provided a tour of the centre and presented its role and significance as a unique youth space in Europe, which is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its establishment this year.

MP Mikanadze, who is an alumni of several activities of the Youth Department and was involved in the translation and publication of the first edition of the Compass manual in Georgian, shared the latest youth policy developments in Georgia. He emphasised that youth remains a high priority for the Georgian Parliament and noted that a new law on youth is currently being drafted. The proposed legislation is expected to include provisions on youth work, a registry of youth organisations, and several other aspects not covered by existing laws.

The delegation expressed its commitment to strengthening co-operation with the EYCB and the Council of Europe’s youth sector and hopes that youth representatives from Georgia will continue to participate in significant numbers in the activities organised by the Council of Europe’s Youth Department.
