Back “Young, Informed & Involved: Strengthening Democratic Literacy and Media Participation”

European Youth Press and DYPALL Network

 Aim

To strengthen young people’s ability to critically engage with democratic processes through media and civic storytelling, while fostering inclusive participation and digital resilience across Europe.

 Objectives

  • 1.    Empower youth with the knowledge and tools to understand their rights to expression, information, and civic engagement, in line with Recommendation CM/Rec(2016)7 and the EDC/HRE Charter.
  • 2.    Build capacity in ethical, inclusive, and youth-led journalism, enabling participants to act as multipliers and community educators in democratic participation and media literacy.
  • 3.    Enhance digital literacy by addressing algorithmic bias, disinformation, and the civic impact of AI on youth access to information.
  • 4.    Foster democratic resilience at the local level through the co-creation of “Civic Story Seeds” — project concepts using storytelling to address real-life community challenges, grounded in the Revised European Charter on Youth Participation.
  • 5.    Introduce participants to practical tools for strengthening local youth councils, including the Quality Charter on participatory and inclusive LYCs, DYPALL’s user guide, and toolkit for upgrading youth participation structures.
  • 6.    Promote intercultural understanding and pluralism through cross-border collaboration among youth from diverse regions and backgrounds.
  • 7.    Together, these objectives contribute directly to the Council of Europe’s priorities of revitalising pluralistic democracy and advancing young people’s access to rights — while reinforcing media’s role as a driver of democratic inclusion.
