Back Breaking the Barriers: Green Economics and Youth Political Participation in Eastern Europe

Cooperation and Development Network Eastern Europe (CDN)

 Aim

The aim of this study session is to empower 35 young people from Eastern Europe to explore the dominant economic systems, the inequalities they create, and the barriers to political participation faced by the youth of Eastern Europe that these systems create, as well as to propose solutions inspired by the Green economic models to address these inequalities, and to inspire the youth of Eastern Europe to overcome barriers, advocating for sustainable changes within their communities.

 Objectives

  • 1. To increase the awareness of participants about the functioning of economics in the Eastern Europe and its connections with other areas of politics, to understand and critically assess the current economic system and examine it against the existing human rights standards.
  • 2. To investigate the root causes and consequences of economic and social inequality that create barriers to the political participation of young individuals in the Eastern Europe, particularly those from disadvantaged communities.
  • 3. To discuss overcoming the socio-economic barriers the Eastern Europe youth face to political participation.
  • 4. To explore Human Rights based and Green alternative solutions to social and economic inequalities and barriers to political participation.
  • 5. To motivate the participants (CDN member organisations, and activists around the network) to actively engage in advocating for solutions against economic inequalities within their communities and to integrate these issues into the activities of their organisations, including promoting the Toolkit created.
