Forum on Anti-terrorism legislation and its impact on
 freedom of expression and information

27 May 2009
 Nordica Hilton Hotel
Reykjavik, Iceland

The Council of Europe, in co-operation with the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Institute for Information Law of the University of Amsterdam and with the support of the Icelandic Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, is organising a forum on “anti-terrorism legislation and its impact on freedom of expression and information”.

The aim of the forum is to exchange experiences of Council of Europe member states on the impact of anti-terrorism legislation and its implementation on freedom of expression and information. Representatives from the media, civil society, national authorities and independent experts will examine if Council of Europe standards that define the rights to freedom of expression and information in the context of the fight against terrorism are observed in law and in practice across Europe.

The event follows a conference organised in Amsterdam in November 2008 on Anti-terrorism legislation in Europe since 2001 and its impact on freedom of expression and information
