More than 70 European experts met for two days to discuss the reinforcement of the fight against doping in Europe.

Attendees to the 58th meeting of the Monitoring Group welcomed the study “Anti-Doping measures targeting fitness and gym centres: a mapping of practices in the State Parties of the Anti-Doping Convention”, which analyses recreational sport and anti-doping with a particular focus on fitness clubs and gyms. The study was carried out in the context of the Council of Europe’s pledge on healthy lifestyles and anti-doping policies.

The Group had a brainstorming session on children and anti-doping. They heard a description of the Council of Europe’s activities on the protection and promotion of children’s rights by the Steering Committee for the Rights of the Child, by the Start to Talk initiative in the specific area of child safeguarding in sport and the conclusions of an academic study on minors and anti-doping.

The reports of the monitoring visits to Albania, Hungary and Moldova were discussed, and will be available soon. The Monitoring Group also exchanged on the next steps to contribute to the revision of the World Anti-Doping Code.

The 59th T-DO meeting will be held in Strasbourg, on 4 and 5 September 2024.
