ASPIRE: final conference

The ASPIRE project (Activity, Sport and Play for the Inclusion of Refugees in Europe) was an international project, led by ENGSO from 1 January 2017 until 30 June 2019. This project sought to establish how sports clubs can best support the inclusion of migrants and refugees, building on the wide popularity of sports and other forms of physical activity.

It held its final conference to close the project on 14 June in Frankfurt and EPAS Bureau member, Viktoria Rancheva-Slavkova, addressed the conference on behalf of EPAS at the opening session.

The role of EPAS in the project was mainly on dissemination, networking and sharing knowledge. It contributed to the success of ASPIRE by acting as a go-between among the project owners, partners of ASPIRE and the public authorities of the Council of Europe at different levels – from local to pan-European - relying on the different tools at its disposal: Intercultural Cities Programme of the Council of Europe, Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, and the bodies of EPAS (Governing Board and Consultative Committee meetings), among others. In addition, it sought co-operation between the EPAS platform on integration for migrants through sport and ASPIRE activities to ensure sustainability of both projects.
