The Council of Europe Convention on an Integrated Safety, Security and Service Approach at Football Matches and Other Sports Events

Council of Europe – Sport Conventions

1st T-RV Working Group meeting on the preparation of UEFA EURO 2020

28 February 2017, Paris

The Standing Committee of the European Convention on Spectator Violence and Misbehaviour at Sports Events and in particular at Football Matches (T-RV) will organise next 28 February, at the Council of Europe’s Office in Paris, the 1st T-RV Working Group meeting on the preparation of UEFA EURO 2020.

Through this platform, the Council of Europe will lead international cooperation between all the relevant stakeholders involved in the preparation of this tournament, including the 12 hosting countries, UEFA, INTERPOL, EUROPOL, the EU Think Tank of football experts group, Football Supporters Europe and Supporters Direct Europe.

At this first meeting, besides a state of play of the preparations of the tournament, the Working Group will adopt a list of activities, which will include consultative and/or technical assistance visits to the hosting countries who volunteer.

The T-RV Standing Committee has been consistent in establishing successive Ad Hoc Working Groups to monitor the preparations of international major sports events since 2001, when the Ad Hoc Working Party for the World Cup 2002 (Japan and South Korea) was created.

UEFA EURO 2020 is the first tournament in History that will be organised by 13 different cities in 12 countries. Therefore, this is a unique opportunity to promote and implement across Europe the standards of the new Council of Europe Convention on an Integrated Safety, Security and Service Approach at Football Matches and Other Sports Events (CETS 218), that was opened for signature on 3 July 2016, in Paris.
