The Faculty of Sport, University “Union – Nicola Tesla”, Belgrade, Republic of Serbia, in a joint initiative with the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levsky”, Sofia, Bulgaria, organised in Belgrade, on the 2nd of June, the 4th International Scientific Conference on «Safety Management of Sports Competitions».

During the opening session, the Serbian Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Mrs. Brankica Janković, underlined the unique role sport can play in promoting and protecting equality and the need for further co-operation notably with the Council of Europe.

Besides speakers representing different national Serbian stakeholders, the National Olympic Committee and the Sports Union of Serbia, the plenary session also included presentations from Dr. Steve Frosdick, UEFA expert; Mr. Paulo Gomes, representing the Council of Europe sport conventions division; Mr. Lalovic Nenad, President of World Wrestling Federation and member of the International Olympic Committee; Mr. Dragan Mijatovic, Deputy Chief of Observation and Violence Prevention at Sports Events Department, Police Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs; and the moderator of the conference, Mr. Predrag Milinkovic, General Secretary of the Association of Sport Journalists of Europe.

Before an audience of around 150 persons, our representative took this opportunity to promote in general all the activities of the Council of Europe in the field of sport but in particular to describe the added-value and strengths of the new Council of Europe Convention on an Integrated Safety, Security and Service Approach at Football Matches and other Sports Events (CETS Nș 218).

The day before, our representative, accompanied by the deputy head of the CoE Office in Belgrade, also met with the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Vanja Udovičić, for an update on the bilateral cooperation in the field of sports and the possible signature and ratification, in the near future, of the new Convention (CETS Nș 218).
