As part of the implementation of the National Action Plan on the Safety of Media Professionals, Switzerland continued developing practical support and awareness-raising measures for journalists and the wider public. A dedicated online resource is being developed to improve access to existing support initiatives offered by professional associations, trade unions and other stakeholders, including services relevant to women journalists facing harassment and discrimination.
Switzerland also continued efforts to promote media literacy among young people through educational comic stories explaining the role of media and journalism in democratic societies. Published in four languages and distributed through digital platforms and youth publications, the initiative aims to raise awareness among children and young people about the importance of independent media.
A major milestone in 2025 was the publication of the first comprehensive nationwide study on the safety of media professionals. Based on responses from more than 1,700 journalists, the study found increasing exposure to hate speech, digital attacks and legal threats, as well as elevated levels of psychological stress and burnout risks. The findings provide an important evidence base for future policy development and support measures under the National Action Plan
