In 2025, the Task Force for the Safety and Empowerment of Journalists and Media Professionals expanded both its composition and responsibilities. Following the inclusion of the Hellenic Coast Guard and the National Cybersecurity Authority, the Task Force was entrusted with contributing to the preparation of Greece’s National Action Plan for the Safety of Journalists, established under Law 5253/2025.
The Action Plan will provide a comprehensive framework for addressing threats against journalists through incident monitoring, early-warning and support mechanisms, training activities, enhanced cross-sectoral cooperation and stronger links with European and international mechanisms. The Task Force continued to bring together ministries, public media organisations, academic institutions and journalists’ associations, reinforcing its role as the central national coordination mechanism for the implementation of the Journalists Matter campaign in Greece.
