Council of Europe takes part in 5th UEFA Pan-European Safety and Security Strategy Summit

The Sport Conventions Division of the Council of Europe participated on 6 and 7 February, at UEFA Headquarters in Nyon (Switzerland), in the fifth pan-European safety and security strategy summit organised by UEFA, on a common approach to security, safety and service at football matches.

UEFA, in partnership with the Council of Europe and the European Union, delivered five summits to 55 European countries, with the new Council of Europe Convention on an Integrated Safety, Security and Service Approach at Football Matches and Other Sports Events (CETS Nº 218) as a driving force.

This fifth and last summit was addressed to public and private authorities from ten European countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova and Ukraine.

Adrian Dinca, vice-chair of the Standing Committee of the European Convention of Spectator Violence (T-RV) and Paulo Gomes, official from the Sport Conventions Division, were the Council of Europe experts in these events.

This summit will be followed by a UEFA expert meeting on counter-terrorism, to be held on 1 March in Munich (Germany).
