The Council of Europe’s Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) participated in the 30th International Congress for the Prevention and Care of Child Abuse (30 Congreso Internacional de Prevención y Atención del Maltrato Infantil) on 29 August 2023.

This annual Congress is organised by Asociación Afecto with the objective to train professionals working for and with children in the prevention, care and intervention of child maltreatment and sexual abuse and in the promotion of good practices.

On this occasion, EPAS teamed up with the Secretariat of the Committee of the Parties (the Lanzarote Committee) to the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (the Lanzarote Convention) to present the Convention and highlight its potential to protect children from sexual abuse in sport.

Elena Casero, Senior Project Officer, presented “Start to Talk”, a project that supports public authorities, sports organisations and other stakeholders to implement more effective child safeguarding in sport policies. Gioia Scappucci, Executive Secretary of the Lanzarote Committee, and Naomi Trewinnard, Legal Advisor, brought the Lanzarote Convention’s perspective into the discussion.
