Turku is a city in the region of Varsinais-Suomi and the former (and first) capital of Finland. As of 31 December 2022, the population of Turku was 197.917, making it the sixth largest city in Finland after Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere, Vantaa and Oulu. There are around 337.000 inhabitants living in the Turku Central Locality, ranking it as the third largest urban area in Finland after the Capital Region area and Tampere Central Locality.

Diversité de la population

Turku is a multicultural and diverse city, with representation of different ethnic and linguistic groups. The city is officially bilingual as 5.5 % of its population identify Swedish as a mother-tongue. People whose mother language is different than Finnish, Swedish or Saami consist of 13% of the population (25.131 people, 2021 data). Population growth in Turku is mostly based on immigration.
