The CEPEJ awards the First Prize of the Crystal Scales of Justice Junior Edition

The Jury of the Junior Edition of the Crystal Scales of Justice Prize met on 25 June 2020 and awarded for the first time this Prize to the team from the Faculty of Law of Strasbourg (France) led by Mrs Cowderoy who defended the Crystal Scales of Justice Prize “Mediation in criminal justice; referrals by prosecutors in the prosecutorial phase and referrals by judges in the presentencing phase”, National Coordinator on Mediation in Criminal Cases, Netherlands

The Jury also decided to award two special mentions:

  • to the team from the Faculty of Legal Sciences of Tunis (Tunisia) led by Ms Caid Essebsi who defended the project "Improving the quality of justice" (IQ Justice), Supreme Court of Slovenia

  • to the team of the Faculty of Law of Chisinau (Republic of Moldova) led by Ms Mocanu who defended the project Harmonization of processes: a response that reconciles the efficiency of the public service of Justice and wellbeing at work”, 1st instance Court of Luxembourg, Belgium.

The Junior Edition of the Crystal Scales of Justice Prize complements the Crystal Scales of Justice Prize, a European prize for innovative practices contributing to the efficiency and quality of justice. After having put together a research and legal analysis file, highlighting the innovative aspects of one of the awarded projects of the CEPEJ Crystal Scales of Justice Prize and studying its possible transposition in another context, the shortlisted candidate teams were invited to defend their case orally before the Jury by videoconference.

The winning team will be invited to the CEPEJ plenary meeting for the award ceremony which should take place on 8 and 9 December 2020 in Strasbourg.
