A Workshop on the protection and promotion of the civil society space in Europe took place in Strasbourg, on 29 November 2018, under the aegis of the Finnish Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, and in the framework of the 90^th meeting of the Steering Committee for Human Rights (27-30 November 2018).

The aim of the Workshop was to reaffirm the commitment of the Council of Europe and other international partners to protect and promote the civil society space in Europe and to explore current challenges facing civil society actors in Europe.

The Recommendation CM/Rec(2018)11 of the Committee of Ministers to member States on the need to strengthen the protection and promotion of civil society space in Europe was adopted by the Committee of Ministers at the 1330^th meeting of the Ministers' Deputies, on 28 November 2018.
