The Ministry of Justice has coordinated a series of events that have highlighted the importance of collaboration and international cooperation to meet the challenges of Justice in this new decade.

On October 15th, The General Secretariat for Innovation and Quality of the Public Justice Service held a videoconference with the Estonian Embassy, presenting the projects being carried out by the Ministry with particular emphasis on those in which both countries can collaborate to achieve excellence in Public Justice Service in a coordinated manner within the framework of the European Union, especially in the areas of digital justice.

Both parties discussed strategic projects such as digital immediacy, artificial intelligence, automated and assisted processing or sustainable electronic legal records. This meeting marked the start of enhanced cooperation on the digital transformation of justice between the countries ahead in the European Commission's Digital Economy and Society Index 2020-Digital Public Services Report

On October 21st, a 5th Meeting of the Criminal Section of the Joint Commission for International Legal Cooperation has been held. This Commission functions as working group made up of representatives of the ministerial departments and institutions involved in any kind of mutual legal assistance procedures, in which representatives of particularly relevant judicial bodies participate. The conclusions of the Joint Commission stressed the importance of further strengthening coordination between the various stakeholders in MLA procedures to act as effectively as possible in the international prosecution of crimes.

On October 22nd, information will be launched to the public about a new pilot project on electronic connections through LexNet between the Spanish Central Authority and judicial bodies. This project will involve electronic submission by the Courts of requests for MLA with the maximum speed and the maximum guarantees of security and authenticity.

On October 23rd and 25th, an explanatory note and a video about the «ECRIS» (European Criminal Records Information System) System will also be launched. Spain is at the forefront in the implementation and development of that system that allows a full connexion with all the EU members. Within the framework of the Ministry's digital transformation plan, the next objectives include adapting the System to the objectives set by Regulation (EU) 2019/816, expanding this system of exchange of criminal records, to non-European citizens sentenced in any Member State.
