A team of Council of Europe experts carried out an evaluation visit to Georgia to assess the country’s anti-doping legislative framework. Held from 12 to 14 November 2024, the visit included a current overview of the Georgian situation, a conference on different strategies for the safeguarding of the health of athletes at all levels of sporting activity, and workshops aimed at finding ways to improve Georgian anti-doping laws in order to limit the availability and trafficking of doping substances.
The evaluation team met with the Georgian National Anti-Doping Organisation, public authorities responsible for sport, health care and law enforcement as well as with representatives of the Georgian National Olympic Committee and national sport organisations.
The team consisted of Floriane Cavel (Chair of the T-DO Evaluation Team, French Anti-Doping Agency), Erika Petrutytė (Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency), Martin Holmlund Lauesen (Anti-Doping Norway), Graham Arthur (Independent Expert, United Kingdom), Jamie Brown (Council of Europe) and Liene Kozlovska (Council of Europe). The evaluation team was joined by Michael Cepic (Nationale Anti-Doping Agentur Austria) as an observer.
The Anti-Doping Convention allows the Monitoring Group to conduct targeted evaluation visits to review and help to improve specific aspects of a country’s anti-doping system.
The findings and recommendations from the visit will be summarised in an evaluation report which will be adopted by the Monitoring Group and subsequently transmitted to the Georgian authorities for implementation.
