EYF visits a local project on youth participation and democracy in London

On 1 October 2022, the EYF carried out a monitoring visit to a pilot activity in East London, United Kingdom, of the organisation Mouth that Roars.

Mouth That Roars (MTR) is a not-for-profit youth organisation that was set up to ensure marginalised young people have access to film and media literacy education, training and employment resources.  MTR delivers a programme of inclusive, targeted outreach and centre-based activities that reach approximately 300 young people per year.

The EYF visited the project “Be the Change”. The project is supported by the EYF through its pilot activity grant scheme, within the campaign “Democracy Here. Democracy Now” of the Council of Europe.

“Be The Change”’ is a non-formal education programme that engaged 10 young people in a series of experiential workshops where they learnt about the democratic process; understood why their voices are important and explored how they can use their influence to create opportunities for positive change. Using film and photography, young people created social media content from each workshop. This content will provide educators resources to empower other young people on human rights, democracy and activism issues.
